The Magic of Summer Rain
Rain not only helps our gardens grow wild but the sound allows us to switch off and rest our mind. According to researchers, we love rain and other water noises because we perceive them as non-threatening. Rainfall is white noise that blocks out unwanted background noises and its simple and repetitive sound allows us to calm our mind, inducing a mild state of meditation.
This white noise not only helps us to relax, it also brings out our inner creativity. Research from marine biologist Wallace J. Nichols, author of the book, “Blue Mind: The surprising science that shows how being near, in, on, or under water can make you happier, healthier, more connected, and better at what you do” documents that the sound of rain allows our brain to wander, eventually reaching a state known as the default mode network, associated with daydreaming and introspection, which is critical to creativity.
I find something very grounding about summer rainfall. The Essence + Alchemy Wild Garden candle was created to evoke the feeling of standing in a rain soaked garden. The scent of warm mists rising from the ground after summer rain carrying the sweet perfume of lemon scented geraniums and bitter orange trees
